Terms of service

Last updated 1 September 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Residuals for your use of Residuals. By creating an account you accept them.

1. What Residuals does

Residuals is a record-keeping tool for creators. You enter your brands, deals, the usage license windows you have sold and the invoices you raise; Residuals keeps them together, tells you when a license window is about to end or has ended, and helps you produce a renewal invoice.

Residuals does not monitor advertising platforms for you and detects nothing automatically. The “check the ads” buttons build an ordinary search link to a public ad library that opens in your own browser. Any statement in the app about a license window is based solely on the dates you entered.

2. Not legal, tax or financial advice

Nothing in Residuals or in the documents it generates is legal, tax or financial advice. Suggested renewal amounts, invoice wording, due dates and reminder schedules are conveniences derived from your own settings. Have your agreements and invoices reviewed by someone qualified before you rely on them.

3. Eligibility and your account

  • You must be at least 18 and able to enter a contract.
  • An account is for one person. Residuals has no team or shared-account features, and you may not let anyone else sign in as you.
  • You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details private and for everything done under your account. Tell us promptly at support@residuals.dev if you think it has been used without your permission.
  • Give accurate information and keep your contact email current.

4. Your content stays yours

You keep all rights in everything you enter. You grant Residuals only the permission needed to host that content, show it back to you, generate the documents you ask for, and send the email you have switched on. We do not sell your content and do not use it to train machine-learning models.

5. Email we send on your behalf

Renewal and reminder email is sent from notify.residuals.dev on your behalf, carries a footer identifying you as the sender, and uses your address as the reply-to. You choose the recipients by saving a brand contact, and you are responsible for the accuracy and tone of what goes out. Fair-use sending limits apply per account per day.

You agree not to use this feature to:

  • contact people who have asked you not to, or who never gave you their address;
  • send anything misleading, threatening or harassing;
  • assert that a brand has done something wrong. Residuals is deliberately worded around a license window having ended and a renewal being worth discussing.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • attempt to access another user’s data, or probe or disrupt the service;
  • scrape, resell or rebuild the service, or use it to build a competing product;
  • upload unlawful content or anything you have no right to store;
  • circumvent plan limits, billing, or rate limits.

Found a security issue? Email support@residuals.dev before disclosing it anywhere else and we will work with you.

7. Plans, payment and refunds

  • The free plan allows up to three active deals, in-app alerts and the ad-library links.
  • Paid plans unlock unlimited deals, email alerts and automatic chasing of overdue invoices. Prices are shown on the pricing page in US dollars and exclude any tax we are required to add.
  • Payment is taken by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
  • A monthly subscription renews automatically until you cancel it, and you keep access to the end of the period you have paid for. A one-time plan does not renew.
  • Cancel any time from the billing screen. Beyond rights you have by law, paid periods already started are non-refundable — but write to support@residuals.dev if something went wrong and we will look at it fairly.
  • We may change prices for future periods with at least 30 days’ notice by email. A one-time plan you have already bought is not repriced.

8. Alerts are best effort

Residuals aims to deliver each alert once, on time. Delivery depends on your dates, your settings and third parties such as your email provider, so we cannot guarantee that a particular alert or reminder arrives, or arrives on a particular day. Treat Residuals as a helpful assistant, not the only record of your obligations.

9. Availability and changes to the service

The service is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. We may add, change or remove features. If we plan to remove something you depend on, or to shut the service down, we will give reasonable notice and time to export your data.

10. Liability

To the maximum extent the law allows, Residuals is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for revenue you did not collect, for a renewal you did not pursue, or for the outcome of any conversation with a brand. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Residuals and delete your data at any time from the app. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, that we are legally required to close, or whose payment fails and stays unpaid — with notice where practical, and immediately where the breach risks other users or the service.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For material changes we will email you or show a notice in the app at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Residuals after that date means you accept the new version.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, and the courts there have exclusive jurisdiction, without limiting any right you have to bring a claim where you live.
